- Is AI now called Super Intelligence (SI)?
- Only inside the US federal executive branch. Executive Order 14434, signed September 29, 2026, directs federal agencies to use "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in place of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" in their documents and communications. It defines SI as the same technology the law already calls AI, so nothing about the technology changed. Super Intelligence (two words) is also different from superintelligence (one word), a research term for hypothetical AI far beyond human ability.
- Does the Super Intelligence executive order apply to private companies?
- No. Executive Order 14434 binds federal executive-branch agencies only, and the White House Accord on Super Intelligence signed the same day is voluntary for its six signatories. Statutes, regulations, contracts, and state AI laws are unchanged. Federal contractors should expect the new term in agency solicitations and correspondence, and everyone should watch the proposed federal definition of SI, due to the President by November 28, 2026.
